MEERUT: Hailing his government and
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for doing “great work” over the last two years in Haryana, state chief minister
Manohar Lal Khattar on Wednesday said voters in Uttar Pradesh should also give BJP a chance.
Khattar, who was in Baghpat district to lay the foundation stone for a bridge over the Yamuna river connecting western UP’s Baghpat with Haryana’s Sonipat district, said, “The
Yamuna bridge
between UP and Haryana will help join the hearts of the people of both states and strengthen trade relations. In Haryana, we gave Rs 24,000 crore as compensation to our farmers. In UP, farmers are struggling to get the right price for their crops. BJP has done great work in Haryana over the last two years. Give us a chance in UP as well.”
He also praised the Prime Minister’s decision to demonetise high-value currency notes. “You must trust the government’s intention. Demonetisation will bring huge benefits to the country in the coming days. It will rid the country of the menace of black money,” the chief minister said.
Taking a dig at RLD chief
Ajit Singh, local MP Satyapal Singh said, “We want to dedicate this Yamuna Bridge to former prime minister
Chaudhary Charan Singh
, who was a messiah of farmers all over the country. However, we are against those who want to play the politics of nepotism in this region.”
