Naresh Tikait's son Gaurav Tikait on Thursday said, "I received a threat call on Wednesday morning. At first, we thought it was a mischief but when we started getting repeated calls, we filed a police complaint."

Rakesh Tikait, national spokesperson of BKU, said that ever since the farmers' agitation at the Ghazipur-Delhi border, he had been receiving several death threat calls and abusive messages on WhatsApp.

"The caller threatened to blow up my family if we did not stay away from the farmers' movement. I had received such threats in the past as well and filed complaints at various police stations in Ghaziabad, Delhi and Muzaffarnagar. I was attacked in Karnataka also. I request the authorities concerned to extend the security cover to my family," he added. SHO of Bhorakalan police station, Akshay Sharma, said, "A case under IPC section 507 (criminal intimidation by anonymous communication) was registered in the matter. Further probe is on, and action will be taken accordingly." Meanwhile, BKU-RLD leaders rushed to Tikait's house on Thursday and demanded the immediate arrest of the culprit.

Notably, Rakesh Tikait had filed a police complaint against an unidentified man for threatening him over phone in March, last year. He also said that the caller used foul language. Following the call on March 27, the local police went to Tikait's house and collected details of the matter. Based on the complaint, a case under IPC sections 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) was filed against the unknown person at Civil Lines police station, and a probe is underway.
