UP cop frames 2 for murder, court orders FIR

MEERUT: A Shahjahanpur court has directed UP DGP to file an FIR and initiate departmental action against inspector BS Verma for allegedly framing two innocent men in a 2007 murder case while trying to save the accused, reports Krishna Chaudhary. The court also sought an action taken report “within two months”.

Acquitting Mohd Anis and Pramod Kumar Friday, the court said: “It’s beyond comprehension as to what divine power and knowledge enabled the investigator to ascertain that these two were the accused.”

The case dates back to 2007 when a complaint was filed by Rita Gupta’s family, who was shot in Shahjahanpur. Her daughter said her uncles, Sanjeev and Shashi, had killed her mother as she had testified against Shashi. However, in the chargesheet, Verma left out the names of the two accused and allegedly got a statement of a “fake witness”, naming Anis & Pramod Kumar as the accused
