MUZAFFARNAGAR: The Flying Surveillance Team ( FST) formed for the civic body elections in Uttar Pradesh intercepted a car coming from Meerut and seized Rs 2,80,86,500 in Muzaffarnagar on Monday.
As the car driver was unable to provide details about the cash, the money was confiscated.
According to DSP Ravi Shankar, the car driver named Shashank Sharma, who lives in Chanakyapuri, Meerut, identified himself as a businessman during the interrogation. However, he was unable to provide any legitimate documentation related to the cash and 96 grams of gold found in his possession.
The flying squad informed the Income Tax Department, the bank, and the local police officers.
On the instructions of the State Election Commission, FST teams are deployed at different places in the district.
