Scolded by mother, UP boy shoots self; watched videos on journey of soul after death

MEERUT: A 15-year-old boy from the Bhawanpur police limit area of Meerut died by suicide on Sunday after he was scolded by his mother and elder brother for associating with violent individuals, police said on Monday.

They added that the class 9 student watched videos about punishments for suicide in the Garuda Purana shortly before shooting himself with an illegal country-made pistol.

Superintendent of police (Rural) Rakesh Kumar Mishra said an FIR has been registered to investigate how the boy obtained the firearm.

"On Sunday , the elder brother went to pick up their mother, and upon returning, they found the boy chatting with a friend. They scolded him for keeping bad company, after which he locked himself inside the room," Mishra said. Before the incident, the boy watched videos on Garuda Purana, focusing on the consequences of suicide, the journey of the soul after death.
