Two nephews of BJP leader drown in Ganga

At least two persons -nephews of BJP leader Bhagwan Das Singhal- drowned in the Ganga at Bavissar Ganj ghat in Bulandshahr on Sunday morning.

MEERUT: At least two persons -nephews of BJP leader Bhagwan Das Singhal- drowned in the Ganga at Bavissar Ganj ghat in Bulandshahr on Sunday morning. While the body of Lalit Singhal, 28, has been recovered, efforts are on to trace 26-year-old Mohit Narayan, who is feared dead.
According to sources, six members of Singhal's family, including his three sons and three nephews, crossed the river to play cricket on the ghat when they decided to take a dip in the Ganga.

Narayan went deep into the river and got caught in the current. Seeing him struggling, the others rushed to help but the gushing water swept them off too. Locals came to their rescue and with the help of police rescued four of them. All of them are residents of Khurja here.
Station officer, Anoopshahr, Sanjay Kumar said, "After crossing the Ganga in a boat, the six people decided to play cricket on the ghat. Later, they took a dip in the river when Narayan was suddenly caught in the river's current. In the attempt of helping one another, all of them were swept away. Four of them were rescued later."
The ones rescued were identified as Madhur Singhal, 19, Nitesh Singhal, 12, Lovesh Singhal, 30, Rohit Singhal, 24. BJP leader Bhagwan Das - candidate for the post of president in Nagar Nigam - refused to speak to the media and requested privacy.
"We have received a letter from the family that they do not want any investigation in the matter. They took Lalit's body. A Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) flood squad is looking for Narayan," said Shreshtha Thakur, circle officer, Anoopshahr.
