MEERUT: A Baghpat-based trader consumed some poisonous substance after he allegedly received an extortion demand of Rs 2 lakh on Sunday. Vinay Jindal, who is a trader in bathroom tiles and notebooks, is out of danger, police said. Jindal’s family accused a property dealer, Sanjay Kumar. “Initially, Jindal used to help him sell properties in lieu of commission. Now, he has started his own venture. On Sunday, Sanjay along with three accomplices reached Jindal's shop and threatened to kill him if he did not shell out Rs 2 lakh. After that, he consumed a poisonous substance,” a relative alleged. While Sanjay has been booked for extortion and intimidation, sources allege that Jindal is heavily in debt and took poison “to deter others from demanding money.”
