MEERUT: Three Covid-19
patients
were among 12 people booked for allegedly attacking a team of
policemen
and
district
officials in Meerut's Delhi Gate area when they went to take away the infected men with them and to seal the lane they were living in.
Out of the 12 people, four are likely to face stringent National Security Act (NSA) for the Saturday's
attack
. Cleric of the
mosque
where the patients were staying is also among those likely to face NSA.
The three Covid-19 patients, who are from Maharashtra's Nasik, were living in the mosque from where three novel coronavirus positive persons were already taken away on Friday.
The district officials, escorted by policemen, had returned to take away the three others after their report came positive. They also wanted to seal the lane housing the mosque, but were attacked, police said.
According to police sources, city magistrate Sushant Jain and two policemen sustained injuries in the attack by locals who were against the sealing."Six Jamaatis tested positive within 24 hours. The city magistrate accompanied by health department officers and police rushed to the Jali Kothi area on Saturday to sanitise and seal the lane where the mosque is situated. However, a few locals, who were resisting the move, pelted stones at the officials," Meerut SSP Ajay Sahni said on Saturday.
