Teen arrested for killing friend in retaliation for blackmailing girlfriend with obscene photos

MEERUT: A 16-year-old boy was arrested on Sunday for allegedly killing his 17-year-old friend, who was blackmailing his girlfriend with her obscene pictures.

The accused and the victim, names withheld as both are juveniles, were friends, and both were in class 11 at the same school, said police.

SP city Ayush Vikram Singh told TOI, “The victim somehow gained access to the accused’s phone and transferred the accused’s girlfriend’s obscene picture to his mobile.

Later, he started blackmailing the girl to meet and said that if she didn’t comply, he would put the pics on the internet. The girl narrated the ordeal to her boyfriend, who called the victim and attacked him with a hammer. The victim left his home claiming he was going for classes but didn’t return late.

The family began searching for the victim and found that there were no classes on Saturday. Then they contacted the accused, who claimed he hadn’t met the victim, following which cops were informed.”

The SP added, “Both were seen in CCTV footage, following which the accused was called for questioning and held after he confessed his crime. The victim succumbed to severe head injuries. An FIR has been lodged. Further probe is on.”
