BIJNOR: Two Urdu teachers (aged 25 and 30) were arrested in UP's Saharanpur on Saturday after a widely circulated video allegedly showed a 10-year-old student being beaten inside a madrassa.
The footage purportedly showed one teacher hitting the child with a stick while another holds him down as he screams and pleads to be released. A third person is believed to have recorded the incident on phone.
The arrests followed a complaint filed by a local resident at Gangoh police station, who submitted the video to the police, urging authorities to take strict action.
Police said the incident occurred around eight months ago, but the video surfaced on April 3 following a dispute among madrassa staff.
The accused were removed from their positions soon after the incident. Based on the video evidence, an FIR was filed and both teachers were arrested on Saturday morning.
During questioning, the accused allegedly told police that the child had run away from the madrassa and was beaten after being brought back.
Circle officer Ashok Kumar Sisodia said police acted promptly after receiving the footage and initiated legal action. "A detailed probe is underway and assured that strict action will be taken against those found guilty," he added.
