Students allege irregularities in BEd fee reimbursement

Meerut: Around 50 students of Chaudhary Charan Singh University met the district magistrate on Friday alleging irregularities in BEd fee reimbursement at a girls college in the city. They said the college was granted Rs 15,000 additional amount per student by the social welfare department as fee reimbursement for three years. The students alleged that the scam involves more than Rs 50 lakh. The students alleged, “The government has laid down fee structure for the BEd course run by self-financed colleges — which is Rs 35,000 per student for the session 2011-12. Students belonging to the reserved category and economically weaker section get tuition fee reimbursement. But the college demanded Rs 51,000 per student from the welfare office, which was Rs 15,000 more than the fee prescribed by the government. This exercise continued for three consecutive BEd batches from 2011 to 2013.” The students said every year the college admits 100 students for the one-year BEd course. Principal of RGPG college, Sneha Gupta, told TOI, “As I had taken the charge of principal only a month ago, I am not aware of the matter and will ask the management tomorrow (Saturday). If the administration seeks any information regarding the matter, we will cooperate with them fully.” Additional city magistrate Devendra Singh assured the students that the matter would be probed.
