‘Stone-pelting’ on BJP MLA’s car, 3 cops suspended for ‘negligence’
Amroha: Three police personnel -- including a senior SI, an SI and a constable -- were suspended for "negligence" after they failed to promptly respond to a call informing them that stones were hurled at the car of BJP MLA Rajeev Tarara near the railway crossing in Amroha. The MLA alleged that police failed to reach the spot for nearly 30 minutes after the stone-pelting, officials said on Tuesday.Police said the alleged attack happened on Sunday night when two men on a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction scraped the MLA's car. The MLA's security personnel reprimanded the bike riders, triggering an argument that escalated into a scuffle between the riders and the security staff. The youths then allegedly began pelting stones at the MLA's vehicle.Circle officer (CO) Pankaj Tyagi said, "Though MLA Tarara called senior sub-inspector Satish Maurya immediately after the incident, police did not reach the spot promptly. The MLA subsequently contacted SP Amit Kumar Anand, following which Maurya, town outpost in-charge Jugal Kishore and constable Ankush Kumar were suspended on Monday."Meanwhile, Tarara's supporters apprehended the two bikers -- Rohit Kumar (23), a resident of Shahbazpur village, and Pradeep Kumar (30), a resident of Nadanore Mafi village -- and handed them over to the police.
A complaint was lodged by Tarara's supporter Satveer Singh, alleging that "the accused attempted to murder the MLA and tried to snatch a carbine from his security personnel."A case was registered against nine individuals -- two named and seven unidentified -- under BNS sections 191(2) (rioting while armed with a deadly weapon), 109(1) (attempt to murder), 132 (assault or use of criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of duty), 351(3) (criminal intimidation), 125(a) (endangering life or personal safety of others), 309(5) (attempt to commit robbery, including attempts to snatch weapons or property by force), and 324(4) (causing mischief resulting in damage), CO Tyagi said.
