Meerut: A five-year-old nursery student died after she was run over by a speeding SUV in Kanth area of Moradabad on Sunday evening, triggering protests by local residents who blocked the road demanding strict action against the driver.Following the accident, locals residents caught two youths (in their mid-20s) travelling in the SUV, thrashed them and vandalised the vehicle. Police reached the spot, rescued the youths and took them to the police station, while the driver managed to flee. Mishti Saini was standing by the roadside near her home when the SUV mowed her down. She was first taken to a local doctor and later referred to Moradabad, where she was declared dead. Her parents are daily wagers.Kanth SHO Sudesh Pal Singh said, "An FIR has been registered under BNS sections 106 (causing death by negligence) and 281 (rash or negligent driving) against Abdulla Khan, a local resident. Police teams have been formed to arrest the accused," he said.Police said the SUV bore the name of the nagar president of Azad Samaj Party (Bhim Army). Further investigation revealed that the vehicle belonged to one Haseeb Hussain, brother of Masoom Ali who was earlier associated with the party.Sheeshpal Singh, divisional in-charge of Azad Samaj Party said Masoom Ali does not currently hold any position in the organisation.
