MEERUT: Samajwadi Party functionary Zaheer Salmani's wife Nazreen, 39, was shot dead inside her house in Hapur district on Saturday, police said.
Additional SP (Hapur), Raj Kumar Agarwal said, "The incident took place around 1pm in Samiya Garden colony of Hapur city. Probe revealed that Nazreen was killed by her stepson Mohd Imran, 35, inside her room. The accused, who is the eldest son of Zaheer's first wife, fled with the illegal weapon. There is CCTV footage from the house as evidence. Prima facie, it appears to be a monetary or property dispute. Imran was booked for murder and teams were formed to nab him."
"Nazreen was Zaheer Salmani's second wife and had a 16-year-old son with her. His first wife and four children also live with them in the same house," Agarwal added.
SP (Hapur), Abhishek Verma, added, "The victim suffered three bullet wounds in head, chest and abdomen. Forensic teams later collected samples from the crime scene which suggested that a pistol or a revolver was used to kill her."
Zaheer, who is also a property dealer, said that he had gone out for work at the time of the incident. "I was informed by my family over the phone that my wife was unwell and once I reached hospital, I came to know that she was shot dead."
