BIJNOR: The superintendent of police (SP), Sanjeev Tyagi, on Sunday suspended the station house officer (SHO) of Kotwali rural police station, Anshumali Bharti, for ‘negligence of duty’. The suspension was ordered following a special drive conducted on June 28 at the police station where it was found that out of 13 cases filed in the last one month, not even a single action was taken by the SHO.
SP officer Tyagi tightened noose on the police officer after a brother-sister duo were robbed of Rs 50,000 at gun point by bike-borne thieves when they were returning home on Saturday evening, after withdrawing money from a bank. The incident took place at Shadipur village.
According to Tyagi, Bharti, who was posted here in kotwali (Dehat) as SHO on June 1, had failed to arrest even a single criminal, even though 47 offenders were arrested from different police stations in Binjnor. Following which Bharti was suspended for dereliction of duty.
According to police sources, criminal activates have been on the rise in Bijnor. The district has been witnessing rising cases of rape and loot in the last couple of months.
