NEW DELHI: A crowd surge at the entry gate of a religious congregation on Friday led to some women sustaining minor injuries.
Hundreds of people had gathered to listen to a preacher reciting the 'Shiv Katha'. When news of the incident spread, some people referred to it as a stampede. However, both police and district officials refuted these claims.
Senior superintendent of police Vipin Tada clarified that a few women fell and were injured but assured that they received prompt medical attention.
"The women who fell were quickly assisted by police officers, and first aid was administered on the spot," he said.
Meerut district magistrate Deepak Meena also confirmed that there were no casualties. "There was a crowd surge near the entry gate, but no one was trapped or seriously hurt. The situation is under control, and adequate security forces were deployed," he added.
Meena emphasized that all necessary arrangements had been made for the event, and security measures were planned well in advance after an inspection of the venue. The event, now in its sixth day, proceeded as scheduled.
