‘Saw my name, not roll number’: Bulandshahr woman admits UPSC rank claim error
Meerut: The controversy surrounding a Bulandshahr woman who claimed to have secured the 113th rank in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2025 has been resolved after she publicly acknowledged her mistake. She clarified that in her excitement, she only checked the name on the result list without verifying the roll number. The confusion arose when it was discovered that the candidate who actually secured the rank, also named Shikha, is from Delhi. Her name and roll number appeared in the official UPSC list, while Shikha from Ambedkar Colony in the Bhud area of Bulandshahr mistakenly assumed the result was hers."In the excitement of seeing my name in the list, I did not check the roll number. It was an honest mistake, and I regret the confusion it caused," the Bulandshahr resident said. The actual rank holder, Shikha from Delhi, is currently serving as a Block Development and Panchayat Officer (BDPO) in Rohtak. The UPSC 2025 results were officially declared on March 6, 2026.This incident echoes a similar UPSC rank confusion in 2025, when two candidates with the same name claimed the same rank. The Union Public Service Commission had then clarified that Akanksha Singh from Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh — daughter of Ranjit Singh and Neelam Singh — was the legitimate candidate who secured Rank 301.
