Robbery of jeweller in Delhi: One arrested, Rs 7 lakhs recovered
MEERUT:Sanjay agarwal, meerut-based jeweller is yet to recover from the shock after his driver Sunil Kumar allegedly fled with his car in which he had kept 43 kg of silver purchased from Chandni Chowk’s bullion market and Rs 17 lakh in cash on July 26 in Delhi.
Sanjay Agarwal runs a jewellery shop in Meerut’s bullion market. He tried registering a complaint with Delhi Police at Chandni Chowk police station but to no avail as the cops failed to take cognizance. The trader turned to Meerut police and narrated his ordeal to them. As a result, an FIR was lodged on August 1 with Meerut police.
“The trader was not heard by Delhi Police and came to us with his plea. The case was outside our jurisdiction but we still filed an FIR based on his complaint after seeking necessary approvals from seniors,” SHO Delhi gate Vijay Gupta told TOI.
Meanwhile, SSP, Meerut, Rajesh Pandey directed local Delhi Gate police to probe the case and crack it at the earliest. Based on surveillance inputs, a team of Delhi Gate police station raided the residence of the accused driver’s in-laws’ in Kanpur and successfully recovered the entire consignment of silver, Rs 7 lakh in cash and the stolen car. While police are yet to trace the main accused, Sunil Kumar, his brother-in-law Rahul Kumar has been arrested for aiding in the conspiracy to loot. “According to the arrested youth, Sunil planned to start his life all over again with the stolen treasure,” SHO Gupta said.
