Police attach Rs 6cr assets of jailed gangster in Kairana

Shamli: Police on Thursday attached properties worth around Rs 6 crore belonging to jailed gangster Mohammad Inam alias Dhuri under Section 14 (1) of the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act, following orders issued by the district magistrate.SP NP Singh said Inam, a resident of Mohalla Aalkalan in Kairana, is a history-sheeter with 41 criminal cases against him, including murder, attempt to murder and extortion. He was a close aide of the notorious Mukim gang active in western UP. His name had also figured as a key accused in the 2016 firing at the residence of then-municipal chairman Rashid Ali in Kairana.Last Sept, police arrested Inam — who carried a reward of Rs 25,000 and was wanted in a Gangster Act case — after an encounter. He is currently lodged in Muzaffarnagar jail. Gang leader Mukim Kala was killed in a gang war inside Chitrakoot jail in 2021.SP Singh said investigations revealed that Inam had accumulated substantial assets through criminal activities. Following a detailed police report, the DM issued orders to attach the properties, including two residential houses — one in Mohalla Aaryapuri and another in Mohalla Aalkalan with multiple shops — a plot in Mohalla Gulshan Nagar, and a bank account in the name of his wife, Zeenat Chaudhary, containing over Rs 9 lakh.Additional SP Sumit Shukla said the attachment was carried out with drum-beating and public announcements (munadi) as mandated by law. Police added that the action was part of the administration's ongoing crackdown on organised criminal gangs in the region.
