One who hasn’t lost hasn’t lived, says Jayant Chaudhary after RLD’s LS defeats

MEERUT: In an emotional appeal to his workers and party supporters RLD vice president Jayant Chaudhary said that winning and losing are all part of life and “one who hasn’t lost hasn’t lived”.

“You don’t worry. My message for young supporters is that

one who hasn’t lost hasn’t lived

. Life is about winning and losing. We have to learn from this lesson. This is an opportunity to self-introspect. So, I am not disappointed,” Jayant Chaudhary said in his appeal on Saturday after the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls.

In a nail biting contest, RLD chief Ajit Singh had narrowly lost to his BJP rival Sanjeev Balyan in

Muzaffarnagar

while Jayant Chaudhary was defeated by Satyapal Singh in another close contest in Baghpat.

Many analysts had claimed that the west UP-based political party was on a revival path after its stellar performance in

Kairana

by-polls where its candidate Tabassum Hasan defeated BJP’s Mriganka Singh in 2018. However, the party could not build on the momentum.

Apart from losing all the three seats - Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat and

Mathura

- it contested, the party also failed to do much for ‘mahagathbandhan’ in the Kairana Lok Sabha seat.

Many believe that this is majorly due to alienation of a section of Jat voters - one of its traditional vote banks. “Most of the younger Jats are with BJP while the older ones still have a soft corner for Ajit Singh,” Sanjeev Balyan had said in one of his campaign trails in Muzaffarnagar last month.

With the RLD part of ‘mahagathbandhan’ and Congress announcing not to field its candidate in Baghpat and Muzaffarnagar, a consolidated vote bank of Muslims, Dalits and Jats gave an initial edge to RLD.

But, the tables turned on the counting day as Satyapal Singh defeated Jayant Chaudhary by a margin of over 23k votes while Sanjeev Balyan retained Muzaffarnagar seat by a mere 6k votes.

“All future prospects are open and I promise, with time, we will come among you with renewed energy and continue our struggle for farmers,” Jayant Chaudhary said.
