MEERUT: A local financier Neeraj Chauhan, 35, a resident of Ganesh Puri colony in
Khatauli area, was shot by unidentified persons on Sunday evening. At around 7pm, Chauhan had answered the doorbell when the bike-borne assailants pumped bullets into him and fled. Chauhan sustained a bullet injury in his head and died in a hospital.
Senior police officials, including SSP Sudhir Kumar Singh and SP (city) Omveer Singh, reached the spot to take stock of the situation.
Forensic teams were also pressed into action.
A fatally-injured Chauhan was rushed to a community health centre in Khatauli area. He was then referred to a higher centre in Meerut after this condition deteriorated, where he eventually succumbed to his injuries.
Police has begun an investigation in the case and is looking for a motive behind the gruesome act. Chauhan was a local moneylender and also worked as contractor for projects of the public works department (PWD).
Teams are trying to extract footage of CCTVs installed at the spot and also in the vicinity, to get a probable lead on the identity of the shooters, police said.
