MUZAFFARNAGAR: President Ram Nath Kovind conferred Muzaffarnagar with the "best district award" at the National Water Awards-2020 ceremony, organised by the Jal Shakti Ministry, at Vighyan

in New Delhi on Tuesday.

The award was presented to the District magistrate Chandra Bhushan Singh for various water conservation and management related initiatives in the district.

The initiatives included the erection of two check dams in the Khatauli region where stored water can irrigate 20 hectares of agricultural land.

Besides, the development blocks of the Budhana and Charthawal regions witnessed the establishment and rejuvenation of a total of nine ponds.These regions, under dark zones, needed immediate conservation measures. This is apart from several other measures including efforts to clean

and Hindon rivers and water harvesting measures. Besides, Uttar Pradesh bagged the first place under the “best state” category.
