MEERUT: An NGO, Pankhrise Foundation, organised a silent rally and awareness programme at the Department of Sociology and Master of Social Work (MSW) at Chaudhary Charan Singh University (CCSU) as part of the "16 Days of Activism" campaign in Meerut.

This global initiative by the United Nations aims to eliminate violence against women and occurs annually from November 25 to December 10.

"The programme commenced with a silent rally led by 60 girl 'student mentors' from the Girl Power Project. The mentor minors are known as Pankhwalis. The rally aimed to raise awareness about violence against women and to encourage societal action to combat it," said Pankhuri Sehgal, the founder of the NGO.

Following the rally, a seminar was held in the Department of Sociology. There, Sehgal spoke about the importance of the "16 Days of Activism."

In her address, she stated, “Shame is a weapon that holds you back—discard it. Your voice is your strength—don’t suppress it. Be smart, prioritise your safety, and always support one another.”

The event included a self-defence session conducted by experts, who provided essential tips and techniques for personal safety.

The event concluded with another silent rally led by the Girl Power mentors at CCSU.
