Meerut: The Meerut Cantonment Board (MCB) is contemplating setting up a gaushala for the protection of cows. A proposal in this regard has been tabled by some members who feel that setting up a cowshed will “compliment” the board’s smart cantonment initiatives.Sources said that the proposal has been accepted by MCB in principle and a team has been formed to work on a detailed plan and come up with a more concrete strategy containing details of the location of the proposed gaushala. “The central and state governments have shown concern over safety of cows in the country. Setting up a gaushala will ensure security of cows. We hereby propose that a gaushala be established in the Meerut Cantonment for protection and upkeep of cows and other ancillary purposes,” reads the proposal that has been submitted by members of the MCB to the governing board. “The board has accepted the proposal in principle. We have asked the concerned members to draw up a detailed plan so that the board can take this forward. We will also identify a few locations for the cowshed. It will be a state-of-the-art gaushala in keeping with the times,” said MA Zafar, media officer, MCB.
