“On the instructions of BSP supremo Mayawati, Sunita Verma and her husband Yogesh Verma have been ousted from the party for indulging in anti-party activities,” said

Subhash Pradhan

, Meerut district president of BSP.

Yogesh Verma had contested the Lok Sabha elections in 2019 from Bulandshahr. He was also slapped with NSA and sent to jail for allegedly orchestrating violence during Bharat Bandh. Meanwhile, party sources said that the decision was taken in the backdrop of news that the both of them were planning to join BJP.

Refuting such rumours, Yogesh Verma said, “It is sad that despite standing by the party, I am being awarded in this manner. There were no plans to move to the BJP. However, I believe, a particular incident led to the decision. Recently, at a party event where hardly 150 people turned up, I gave a speech saying that it is sad that Kanshi Ram had gone on cycle to ensure that Mayawati becomes the chief minister, but we – despite having cars – were not able to gather together in huge numbers.”

He further said, “Some senior party members complained to Mayawati about my speech, and she believed that I said something wrong even without knowing the ground reality.”
