Bijnor: A man has been arrested for allegedly killing his mother-in-law following an argument over domestic violence in Phulsanda village under Nahatour police station in Bijnor, police said on Saturday.
The incident occurred around 9pm on Friday when Sajal Kumar, who had been accused of torturing his wife Bhavna, was confronted by her mother, Babli Devi, 50. During the argument, Sajal allegedly pulled out a country-made firearm and shot Babli, killing her instantly.
Police reached the spot and sent the body for postmortem. Dhampur circle officer Abhay Pandey said, "The accused was arrested and sent to jail. The weapon used in the crime was recovered from the scene."
He added that initial investigation suggested that tensions had been ongoing between the two families since the couple's love marriage two years ago. Based on the complaint filed by the deceased's husband, Fakirchand, a case was registered against the accused under sections 103(1) (murder), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), and 352 (intentional insult with an intent to provoke breach of peace) of BNS.
