MEERUT: A man from
Saharanpur
, who was on the run for 18 years for allegedly attacking his lover’s family was arrested on Wednesday. The case, which sounds like a typical Bollywood potboiler, was registered in 1998.
Ehsaan Khan fell in love with Hasina. After her family objected to their marriage, Ehsaan reached Hasina’s house at night and allegedly attacked her family members and eloped with her.
Hasina’s family registered a case against Khan under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the
Indian Penal Code
. Ehsaan and Hasina were on the run since then. In 2008, the court declared him to be in “absconder” and he has had a reward of Rs 12,000 on his head since then. Khan and Hasina, meanwhile, changed houses three times and managed to evade the law until Khan’s arrest on Wednesday.
“In 1998, Ehsaan Khan was booked under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 452 (house trespass), 504 (intentional insult), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 327 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). He had been absconding since then and was finally arrested on Wednesday, based on a tip-off,”
Saharanpur SSP Manoj Tiwari
said.
“During interrogation, he revealed that he fell in love with Hasina back in 1998. She was willing to marry him but her family objected to the union. This made Khan very angry and he attacked her family and eloped with Hasina in the middle of the night. An FIR was registered and the two had been missing since that night. In the meantime, they had changed houses thrice and Khan had even got a job with the
Food Corporation of India
(FCI). There, he even carried out a fraud by making someone else working for him and splitting the salary.”
