MEERUT: A man was awarded life-term prison sentence and was penalized with a fine of Rs 10,000 for killing a 60-year-old woman six years ago at her house by the Meerut court. The Bench headed by additional district judge PP Pandey announced the quantum of sentence on Wednesday.
Giving details of the case, Siraj Alvi, additional district government counsel, said, “Accused Gopal has been awarded lifetime imprisonment and Rs 10,000 fine for the murder case in which he was booked under IPC section 302.
If he is unable to pay the fine, his imprisonment will be increased by a year. The previous duration spent by the accused in question in jail will be adjusted in the sentence announced.”
The case was filed by Deepak Arora – son of Sheela, who found his mother dead lying on the floor with a cloth around her neck. As many as nine witnesses gave statement against the accused. The case, which took place in New Mohanpuri area of the city, dates back to 2013. Money debt was found to be reason behind the killing.
