MEERUT: A 23-year-old man climbed a mobile tower in Shahjahanpur district, insisting he would come down only if his demand to marry a woman was accepted, triggering panic among villagers.
Ramu Kashyap, a painter from Kapsera village, remained atop the tower for nearly seven hours on Monday. He said he had been in a relationship with a woman from the same village for eight years and demanded that she be brought to the spot and the marriage be solemnised.
Police tried to persuade him to climb down, but he remained adamant. Kotwali in-charge Jugal Kishore Pal said, “My team and I tried negotiating with Kashyap, but were not successful. We eventually got the woman on a video call and conveyed her message, following which he climbed down. He later collapsed due to exhaustion and was taken to a community health centre.”
