Bijnor: Uttar Pradesh special task force (STF) has arrested a man for allegedly posing as a deputy director of the Intelligence Bureau and putting pressure on officials of various govt departments to get personal and public-related work done through unfair means, police said on Saturday.
Manoj Kumar, a resident of Mohammadpur Trilok village under Nagina Dehat police station in Bijnor, was arrested around 8.30pm on Friday during a joint operation by the STF and local police near Gulmohar Resort in Saket Vihar Colony, Dhampur.
Additional SP of STF's Meerut field unit, Brijesh Kumar Singh, said a team led by inspector Ravindra Kumar had been gathering intelligence in the area. "Acting on inputs, the team arrested Kumar who was living in a rented house in Saket Vihar Colony. Two mobile phones, a fake identity card and a white car were recovered from his possession," he said.
A preliminary probe revealed that the accused, an MSc graduate, ran a pharmacy named Apollo Medical Agency, licensed in his wife's name. "He allegedly told people in his village and nearby areas that he was posted as a deputy director in the Intelligence Bureau in Delhi and prepared a fake identity card to support his claim," the ASP added.
"Using the forged identity, Kumar allegedly contacted officials from the police, education, revenue and judicial departments, as well as public representatives, and extorted money by promising to get official work done," said the ASP.
