BJINOR: A major tragedy was averted after a bus enroute to Bijnor from
Moradabad caught fire on Tuesday. Luckily, the driver stopped the vehicle in the nick of time and all passengers got down before fire engulfed the bus. The UP state road transport corporation bus belonged to Bijnor depot and it got completely charred. Police have initiated a probe into the matter.
According to passengers, the bus was on its way to Bijnor from Moradabad and there were 25 passengers. When the vehicle reached near
Syohara
, it suddenly caught fire. Panicked passengers alerted the driver, who immediately stopped the bus and asked all the passengers to disembark. After the passengers got down, fire engulfed the bus completelt.”
A passenger,
Monu Kumar, said, "I got scarred when the bus suddenly started burning. For a moment, I thought that it would be impossible to get out. We were lucky to get down unhurt.”
According to some sources, fire tenders reached one-and-a-half hour late after the department was informed. Fire station officer
K S Jadaun
said, "We have received the information around 11:40am on Tuesday and immediately rushed to the spot, but by then the bus was completely burnt.”
Stating about the cause of the fire,
Jadaun
said, "Prima facie, the bus caught fire due a short circuit in the battery wiring. The truth will come out after the investigation is complete.”
