Husband, family booked after autopsy confirms woman found dead in accident was strangled

Meerut: A 27-year-old woman was found dead in a crashed car in Saharanpur's Bihari Garh area, initially suspected to have died in a road accident. However, an autopsy on Wednesday confirmed that she had been strangled, leading police to register a case of murder against her husband and in-laws.On Tuesday afternoon, a damaged car was spotted near Lal Pul under Bihari Garh police station. Inside, Ana Sharif, a resident of Deoband, was found dead, while her husband, Sameer Khan, 28, was unconscious. Passersby rushed Sameer to a private hospital in Dehradun. At first glance, it appeared to be a road accident, but police, suspecting foul play, sent Ana's body for a post-mortem. The report revealed that she had been strangled to death.Following the revelation, Saharanpur police registered an FIR against Sameer, his father Jamal Nassir, 50, his mother Aqsa, 48, and his brother Mohd Sham, 25, under BNS section 85 (cruelty by husband or relatives), 85-2 (dowry death), and provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act. The case was registered based on a complaint filed by Ana's father, Chand Usmani.Usmani alleged that Ana had been married to Sameer for three and a half years and had been harassed by her in-laws despite receiving a dowry. He claimed that her husband's family had been demanding a car and, under the pretext of taking her for a medical check-up in Dehradun, they strangled her and staged the murder as a road accident.SP (rural) Sagar Jain told TOI, "The accused, Sameer, is undergoing treatment at a private medical facility and is in stable condition. He will be called for questioning after being discharged. We will probe all angles of the case."
