MEERUT: Vijay Tomar, a superintendent with excise and customs department in Delhi, was arrested by Meerut unit of Uttar Pradesh special task force in connection with several paper leaks during competitive examinations in the state. Tomar’s name had cropped up as the kingpin of the gang whose members were recently arrested from Baraut in Baghpat and questioned by STF.
The gang used to seek a sum of Rs 5-10 lakh from the candidates depending on their financial background and the competitive exams they appeared in.
“He (Tomar) has been in this business of leaking papers of competitive examinations for the past 8-9 years. He has masterminded several such leaks, including the recent exam of tubewell operator which was cancelled after one was one of his accomplices, Sachin, was arrested from Meerut,” Brijesh Singh, Meerut circle officer, STF, said.
Tomar, a resident of Baraut area in Baghpat district, was currently working as superintendent in the excise and customs department and was posted at Delhi airport. According to STF sleuths, Tomar has amassed a lot of wealth, including several properties, in the past few years.
“Tomar initially started his gang with Arvind Rana, also a resident of Baghpat. Their relationships strained in 2012, following which, both of them parted ways. Tomar then came in contact with Vikram Kumar, a resident of Model Town area in Sonipat, whose name had recently come up during paper leak in the civil court staff selection exam held on January 20 this year,” the STF CO said.
All these breakthroughs led STF to Tomar who was arrested on Tuesday. According to STF sleuths, Tomar continued with his gang even after he cleared the staff selection commission exam in 2012 and got the plum job.
