Meerut: Six people, including a newborn baby, were injured after a fire broke out in a two-room house in Nehrupur village of Bulandshahr on Sunday morning, triggered by the explosion of an e-rickshaw battery.
According to the family, the battery had been left charging inside one of the rooms on Saturday night. Usha Devi (42) said her husband, Roshan Lal (44), an e-rickshaw driver, had plugged in the battery before the family went to sleep. The family had returned home late on Saturday after their daughter-in-law Anjali (20) delivered a baby boy at the hospital.
"There was a loud sound early in the morning. At first, we thought someone had burst a cracker, then we heard screams and rushed to the house, where we saw flames," said Amit Kumar, a neighbour.
The injured were first taken to a govt hospital and later shifted to the district hospital. Roshan and his 14-year-old daughter Meenakshi are stated to be in serious condition, while the others, including his son Rohit (22), were discharged after first aid. No police case has been registered so far.
