Disha Patani’s father gets firearm licence after Bareilly house firing
Bareilly: The district administration has granted a firearm licence to Jagdish Patani, a retired deputy superintendent of police (DSP) and father of actor Disha Patani. He had applied for the licence after a criminal gang fired multiple rounds at his house in Bareilly on Sept 12.
The attack is suspected to be linked to a controversy involving Disha's sister, Khusboo Patani, 34, a retired Indian Army major and currently a certified wellness coach. She had posted a video allegedly criticising ‘Katha Vachak' Aniruddh Acharya for making "misogynistic remarks" about women.
Sharing the clip on Instagram, Khusboo wrote, "If he had been in front of me, I would have taught him a lesson." Her remarks drew widespread criticism, prompting her to warn in August that she would take legal action if the attacks did not stop.
On Sept 12, around 3.30 am, two bike-borne assailants allegedly had fired several shots at the Patani residence. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath assured full security to the family the next day.
The accused were later identified as Arun, a resident of Sonipat, and Ravindra, a resident of Rohtak. Both were subsequently shot dead in an encounter with the Noida STF and Delhi Police special cell in Tronica City, Ghaziabad.
After the encounter, the alleged kingpin of the Godara gang posted a threat message on social media, identifying himself as Rohit Godara. In his post, he wrote: "This encounter is a huge loss for us… This is not justice… Whoever is involved in this will not be pardoned, no matter how rich or powerful they are. It may take time."
A senior district official, requesting anonymity, told TOI, "The licence was issued to Patani after he completed all required formalities." Bareilly DM Avinash Singh was unavailable for comment.
