MUZAFFARNAGAR: A day after daring escape of three prisoners from police custody in Sambhal, another undertrial, who had been taken from Delhi to Dehradun for a court hearing, hoodwinked the police team and fled when they stopped over at an eatery in
Khatauli here on Thursday.
The prisoner, Nitin Nagpal, a resident of Delhi and accused of cheating, had been taken to Dehradun by a team from Delhi’s Lakshmi Nagar police station.
According to Khatauli SHO Harsharan Sharma: “The incident took place in early hours on Thursday. The Delhi Police team first tried to search for the runaway prisoner without giving information to local police. When they failed to do so, the team approached Khatauli police station to file a complaint."
It should be noted that on July 2, assailants had opened fire at the police team escorting hardened criminal Rohit Saandu back to Mirzapur jail after the court hearing in Muzaffarnagar after which the Saandu escaped from custody. A UP police sub-inspector Durg Vijay Singh sustained fatal bullet injuries during the shootout. On Wednesday, three prisoners shot two constables while being taken to
Moradabad jail in Sambhal.
