MEERUT: A woman and her lover were arrested for allegedly abducting her husband from Delhi, killing him and dumping his body in UP's Bulandshahr, police said on Sunday.
Police said the case unfolded after a 39-year-old man's body was found in an empty plot in an area under Khurja police station on Jan 8. The man was identified as
Neeraj Kumar, a daily-wage labourer from New Ashok Nagar in Delhi, and a case was registered on Friday based on the complaint of his brother. A missing person report had also been filed by his wife, 35, at Ashok Nagar police station on Jan 12.
During interrogation, she revealed that Neeraj was an alcoholic and frequently assaulted her. She said that she had come in contact with one Pintu Kumar, 33, a resident of Etah, through social media and soon developed a relationship with him.
"At her insistence, Pintu came close to Neeraj and gained his trust by offering alcohol regularly and promising job assistance as he worked at a private company. Fed up with Neeraj's habitual drinking, domestic violence and selling off her jewellery, the duo hatched a murder plot," said SP City Shanker Prasad.
Police said on Jan 7, Pintu brought Neeraj from Delhi to Bulandshahr by bus. He took him to the empty plot, where they drank, after which he strangled Neeraj with a gamchha (towel) and repeatedly smashed his head with a brick, killing him on the spot, before fleeing.
"An investigation confirmed their involvement in the murder. Both were remanded to judicial custody," said the SP. A case has been registered against them under sections 103(1) (murder), 238 (disappearance of evidence), and 61 (criminal conspiracy) of BNS.
Neeraj got married in 2008 and the couple have two sons, aged 14 and nine years. Pintu is also married and has a six-year-old son.
