Delhi-based criminal wanted in 90 cases killed in UP encounter
Shamli: A Delhi-based criminal wanted in at least 90 cases across Delhi-NCR and Uttar Pradesh and carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 was killed in a late-night police encounter in Shamli on Thursday. Mohammad Rehan, 34, was a resident of Zakir Nagar in New Okhla, Delhi.SP NP Singh said the encounter followed a robbery in Babri area around 8.30 pm, when two men allegedly snatched a ring, purse, mobile phone and cash from a victim. Police were alerted and immediately set up checkpoints across the district.Around 11.30 pm, a police team intercepted two bike-borne suspects on Kaserwa Road under Kotwali police station area. When asked to surrender, the accused allegedly opened fire at the team. Police retaliated and in the ensuing gunfight, constable Sumit Kumar sustained a bullet injury to his right hand.Injured Rehan was taken into custody, while his unidentified accomplice managed to escape. Police recovered from him a Turkish-made Beretta pistol, another pistol, eight live and seven empty cartridges, the looted mobile phone along with another mobile phone, Rs 500 in cash, and two silver rings. Rehan was rushed to the district hospital, where he died during treatment.
