MEERUT: Three years into oblivion with a repeated drab in state and general elections, UP Congress “is witnessing a moment of revival” and the major reason being attributed to the rejuvenation is “political developments in Gujarat and damage that RaGa’s tweets have been able to inflict on BJP,” said Manoj Tyagi, joint media coordinator for All India Congress.
He further stated, “Rahul Gandhi’s aggression both in public rallies as well as on social media have indeed energised the UP cadre, which is now gearing up for civic polls to be held in November.
1x1 polls
His scalding tweets have a cascading impact, contributing to sudden rejuvenation in the party.”
Some of the senior leaders see Gujarat elections as a blessing in disguise, particularly at a time when BJP government in UP is bracing to witness its first electoral test in the form of civic polls.
Speaking with TOI, senior Congress leader, Pramod Tiwari said, “The degrading fog that BJP had built around Rahul Gandhi’s intellectual capacity is clearing now. People, especially of Gujarat, have realised it well and result is there for all to witness. BJP is clearly on the back foot. Let the elections happen now and everyone will say it’s time for Modi to go. Regarding UP civic polls, we were in the bastion of Yogiji in Gorakhpur the other day, the improvement in terms of enthusiasm within Congress cadres is really heartening. Lies to do not last very long. You will see that in the form of civic polls in UP."
Another senior Congress leader Naseeb Singh said, “There is no doubt that party cadre did get demoralised not only in UP but in the entire country after a series of defeats. Even media had stopped reacting to our statements and criticism to the NDA government’s policies and decisions but things are changing gradually. See the media criticism on the proposed draconian law that has the effect of giving protection to corrupt officials from media scrutiny in Rajasthan.”

Promises need to be delivered on ground zero. Now people are demanding answers. They will question and they are questioning. Things are certainly looking up for Congress and be it Gujarat elections or UP civic polls, the anger of public will show in poll results,” he added.
According to former state president of BJP, Laxmikant Bajpai, “Let Congress live in an illusion. They have lost so many elections and states and yet they feel they are still relevant. Let the results of the elections decide for themselves.”
