BIJNOR/RAMPUR: A BJP worker from Amroha has alleged that supporters of former Indian cricketer and
Uttar Pradesh sports minister
Chetan Chauhan attacked him and vandalized his office on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday. Following the incident, which was caught on CCTV camera, police have registered an FIR against 46 persons on Friday. Chauhan, a former two-term MP from Amroha, denied any association with the accused.
The incident took place in Amroha’s Gajraula area on Thursday night. According to the FIR, around 50 people barged into Sindhu’s house, opened fire at him and his family members and vandalised vehicles parked outside.
Harveer Sindhu, a former district convenor of BJP’s youth sammelan, told TOI, “Pranav Kumar, who earlier worked at a factory owned by Chetan Chauhan, has been involved in illegal activities along with his henchmen. When I opposed them 20 days ago, they had attacked me. I tried filing a police complaint, but the sports minister’s brother came to their defence and no FIR was lodged. Ever since, these people wanted to take revenge.”
“Around 50 persons barged into my house and attacked me, my family members and neighbours. They vandalised some vehicles also and opened several round of firing at us. Around 6 people, including me, got injured. I have filed a complaint against the accused,” Sindhu said.
He claimed that though Chauhan or his brother were not present during the attack, but “the accused are their supporters”.
An FIR was registered against Pranav Kumar, Pawan Kumar, Amarapal Yadav, Chintu Chauhan, Mujeeb and Abrar under IPC’s sections 147, 148 , 149, (unlawful assembly and rioting) 394 (voluntary causing hurt in committing robbery) and 307 (attempt to murder).
When contacted, sports minister Chetan Chauhan said, “I have nothing to do with this matter and these men. I have collected some details about the incident. They had a spat among one another over their own matter. I always maintain a distance from people with criminal antecedents.”
Rishipal Nagar, Amroha district president of BJP, said, “We have demanded immediate arrest of the assailants, who have nothing to do with the party. Pranav Kumar who carried out the attack belongs to Garh Muktheshwar and he might have held any rank in the party there. We will not tolerate any indecency and assault on our party workers.”
