Bijnor: A four-year-old boy was attacked by a stray dog while playing outside his house in Bjnor’s Chahshiri colony fish market, on Tuesday.
Ali Shaan sustained head injuries up to 15cm deep and was taken to Bijnor district hospital in a critical condition. However, he has been referred to Meerut for further treatment.
“I was in my room with my six-month-old daughter.

Ali Shaan was playing in the house with his friends. I don’t know when they went to play outside. I guess the dogs got agitated seeing the children running around,” said Fareen, Ali Shaan’s mother, adding that one of the dogs caught hold of her son and dragged him into a bylane.
Local residents saved the child by throwing stones at the dog and chasing it away, before Fareen could reach the spot on receiving news of the incident.
“He has suffered severe injuries to the head and I hope he recovers soon,” the worried mother said.
“Some of the bites are more than 15cm deep. Since the injuries are above the neck, he will have to be injected with immunoglobulin which is not available with us. That is why we have referred him to Meerut,” said Dr Ram Kumar, emergency officer, Bijnor district hospital.
When contacted, Nagar Palika chairman Fareed Ahmad said, “We conduct regular drives to catch stray dogs. Even last year, a team from Mathura caught at least 25 dogs. I will inform the team again and conduct another drive soon.”
