MEERUT : A day after a Baghpat man was allegedly abducted, tied to the window of an abandoned house and hacked with axes by five men of his village, police on Thursday arrested four culprits and revealed that “consumption of an extra egg led to the brutal murder of Ankit Sharma.” The incident had taken place at Tyodhi village of the district on Tuesday night, while the body was found on Wednesday morning.
Superintendent of police (SP),
Jai Prakash, said, “The five accused were friends of the deceased. All of them, including Sharma, used to sit together and consume liquor every evening. During questioning of those arrested, it has come to light that the victim had eaten an extra boiled egg that the group had brought as snacks which led to an argument and the murder. Accused Mannu Kumar and Chotu Singh had attacked Sharma with a sickle.”
Police have recovered the weapon used in the crime. “The offenders had tried to destroy evidence. We found a sheet of cloth on which the body was wrapped and dragged for more than 100 metres through the streets before it was thrown into the pond opposite Sharma’s house,” added SP Prakash.
An FIR has been registered on charges of murder, rioting and attempt to remove evidence against four identified suspects – Mannu Kumar, Chotu Singh, Monu Kumar, Sachin and an unknown person.
