Atiq Ahmed's aide held for 'GST fraud of over Rs 100 crore'

MEERUT: The special task force (STF) of Meerut unit arrested a city-based businessman, 60, on Thursday for having an alleged link with the slain gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed in a case "involving the evasion of Goods and Service Tax (GST) of over Rs 100 crore". The accused, Qamar Ahmed Kazmi, resides in the city's Sadar Bazaar area and is a relative of Atiq's brother-in-law, Dr Akhlaq Ahmed.STF (Meerut) ASP, Brijesh Kumar, said on Friday, "Kazmi and his two partners, Daljeet Singh and Rishi Anand, had made several shell firms and created fake e-way bills through which they stole GST. He was called to STF's Meerut office for questioning and subsequently held." He added, "Kazmi was handed over to Civil Lines police on Thursday, and an FIR under IPC sections of cheating by personating, document forgery and criminal conspiracy was lodged against him and his business partners."
