7 of family get lifer for killing man in 2007

Meerut: Almost 17 years after the crime, additional district and session court of Ghaziabad sentenced seven members of a family, all residents of UP’s Hapur, to life imprisonment, for killing Kishan Lal, who was in his early 20s, following a dispute over a cricket bat. The court of ADJ Shiv Kumar Tiwari also slapped fines on the convicts.The murder took place under the jurisdiction of Bahadurgarh police station in Hapur.Additional District Government Counsel, Sanjeev Kumar, told TOI, “On December 27, 2007, a dispute broke out between the victim’s brother, Harish Chand, and the convict’s kin, Ravi Shankar, both residents of Alamnagar region, when they were playing cricket. The convicts — Dhanpat Singh, Shera, Satish, Kalu, Sundar, and two women, Santosh and Haripyari, (all aged between 45 and 55) went to Harish Chand's house armed with sticks and a knife and attacked the victim’s family, resulting in injuries to Harish Chand, his brother Kishan Pal, Hari Gopal, and Charan Das. Pal succumbed to injuries, while the other three survived. Police lodged an FIR under sections 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder) and all seven accused were arrested.”The court found them guilty, following testimonies of eyewitnesses. All were sent to jail following the court's order, ADGC added.
