MEERUT: Three people suffered pellet injuries during firing and stone pelting following a clash between two groups at Durveshpur village in Sardhana area of Meerut district on Sunday, police said. Heavy police force has been deployed in the village and two men have been arrested so far.
Locals said that at least six people, including two women, were injured.
“A man was returning from a field with fodder when a person from another community asked him why he was staring at him. This led to a heated argument which then turned violent,” a police official said.
A case has been registered against at least 50 people for indulging in stone pelting and firing, police added. SP (rural)
Keshav Kumar, who inspected the area, said, "Two men, Liyqat and Ankur, have been arrested. Further investigation is on. The situation is calm at the moment."
