3 of migrant worker family fromWB found dead near UP rly track
Meerut: Three members of a migrant worker's family from West Bengal were found dead under suspicious circumstances near Khurja-Meerut railway track in Bulandshahr district on Friday. Police said a 32-year-old woman was found hanging from a tree while her brother-in-law, 28, and her six-year-old daughter were lying on the ground. They belonged to Bengal's Dakshin Dinajpur and the family was employed in Bulandshahr's pottery units."Prima facie, it appears to be a case of suicide, but all angles are being examined. The exact cause of death will be known once the postmortem report is out. There are no external injury marks on them," said SSP (Bulandshahr) Dinesh Kumar Singh.Police suspect that the child, Savanti, and the man, Saral Sarkar, died first, after which the woman, Devi Sarkar, allegedly hanged herself. No signs of struggle were visible at the spot, police said, adding that around Rs 6,000 in cash was found in Saral's pocket, indicating that robbery was unlikely. The incident came to light around 8am when a railway worker noticed the woman hanging from a rope tied to a tree next to a farm area in Khurja, and he alerted the police control room.
None of the local residents could recognise them. Some food packets, a cold drink, a few apples and samosas wrapped in a plastic packet were also found. Two damaged mobile phones were recovered near the tree. Using SIM cards, police managed to identify the dead. According to police, Devi Sarkar and her husband Apishwar Sarkar worked at a pottery unit in Khurja and lived behind the factory premises. Saral worked at another unit and stayed in Nehrupur.Apishwar was picked for questioning, and he purportedly told police that he had a quarrel with his wife on March 11, after which she left home with their daughter and went to stay with his younger brother Saral. Long phone conversation between Devi and Saral in recent days was also detected, police said.
