3 cops booked after undertrial escapes from police custody

Amroha: Mohammad Wajid, a 25-year-old criminal, was arrested after a police encounter on Tuesday afternoon on Raipur-Kanth road.
He sustained bullet injuries in his leg and was admitted to the district hospital for treatment.
Wajid, a resident of Gangwar village, had escaped from police custody on Monday evening after appearing in the Hasanpur court in a bike theft case, by pushing a constable.
Three constables responsible for his security -- head constable Sartaj Ali, Jai Shankar and Shubham Kataria -- were suspended for dereliction of duty, and a case was registered against them under relevant sections of IPC.
Amroha superintendent of police Kunwar Anupam Singh said, "Teams were deployed to arrest him and drones used to search sugarcane fields in the area. He was eventually apprehended in a field after an encounter." There are 11 cases of theft, robbery, fraud, Arms Act, and attempt to murder against Wajid in different police stations.
He had been arrested by Rahra police in a bike theft case on July 9, 2023. On Monday, Wajid was presented in Hasanpur court, along with other 35 prisoners. He escaped from a police van on the way to Amroha court.

Two attempt suicide in police custody

The men were among 15 individuals against whom the Maharashtra Control of Organised Act was invoked. They were sent to police custody by the court and were found unconscious on Monday. They were immediately taken to the hospital for treatment. The police are investigating how they obtained the pesticide and the motive behind their actions. The duo had recently been charged with kidnapping and extortion.
