Bijnor: A 28-year-old married woman was stabbed to death in Pachokara Meherban Ali village of Amroha district, triggering caste-related tension and prompting heavy police deployment, police said.
Ruby Devi was attacked on Wednesday afternoon while returning from a village feast. Police registered an FIR against 10 persons under BNS section 103(1) (murder), naming the prime accused Dheeraj Kumar, his brother Neeraj Kumar, their parents Brajpal Singh and Anita Devi, an acquaintance, Maniram, and five unidentified persons.
Police said Dheeraj and Neeraj were arrested on Thursday evening and the knife used in the crime was recovered. A search is on for the remaining accused.
SP Amit Kumar Anand said preliminary interrogation revealed that Dheeraj and Ruby had been in a relationship for about three years. Ruby was married to a local labourer, Narendra Singh, and the murder was allegedly committed after Ruby distanced herself from Dheeraj.
The incident led to unrest in the village as the victim and the accused belonged to different castes, with a mob vandalising the suspect's house. Police and Provincial Armed Constabulary units were deployed in the area, and the body was sent for postmortem.
