MEERUT: Two employees of Meerut Development Authority (MDA) were booked and arrested on Sunday, a day after employees
union members
held a protest and allegedly barged into the office
vice chairman.
The employees were alleging that they were being forced to work on holidays and also beyond the duty hours without any extra pay. They were also demanding jobs for children of those employees who died during service.
“For long, we have been demanding that the children of those employees, who have died during service at MDA, be given jobs. But, that demand has gone unheard. Then, the MDA has started asking us to work on holidays and after 5pm without extra payment. That should stop,” said
Sushil Tyagi
, president of the worker’s union.
The two MDA employees were booked under sections 147 (rioting), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of the
Indian Penal Code.
“We did not manhandle anyone during the protest,” Tyagi said. However, vice chairman of MDA, Yogendra Yadav, said: “These people are crooks. They do not want to work. They only
create nuisance
all the time. They barged into my office while a meeting was on. These people need to be taught a lesson.”
SHO of Civil Lines police station, Dhanvir singh, said: “We received a complaint from the MDA on Saturday. We have arrested two people.”
