MEERUT: Ten policemen, including sub-inspectors and constables, in
Saharanpur
were suspended on Wednesday for fudging their attendance and drawing their salaries while they were on extended leave for very long period.
After receiving a complaint that some policemen were absent from duty even after their official leave period had ended, Saharanpur SSP
Manoj Tiwari ordered an investigation into the matter. To his shock, the probe report found that at least 10 policemen had taken leave weeks ago but never returned to join duty. However, in the official records, these cops were shown to be "on duty" and they were drawing their salaries for the past many weeks.
“I had received a complaint which said that some sub-inspectors and constables posted at the
Police Lines
had been fooling the system. These policemen were drawing their salaries without working at all. Initially, I was told that only two policemen had been shirking work. However, a confidential probe found out that nearly 10 policemen had been hoodwinking the authorities,” said Saharanpur SSP Manoj Tiwari.
“When we tried to contact these policemen over phone, we found their phones switched off. When we enquired about them, we found that they had been away from duty for a long time. They were habitual offenders and action has been taken against all of them,” said the SSP.
